2020: Recap

Oof. My 5th annual recap haha. What a year this has been. I will most likely forget some things as I always start writing this way too late on the last day of the year so please forgive me if there is anything left out!

January was pretty cool now that I look back at it. I started an amazingly stupid series where I turn myself into all kinds of characters (from Futurama to Care bears to Gollum) that I ended up turning into livestreams later in the year. We were also prepping and looking for locations to shoot a music video for a Eurovision-entry (more on that later) as well as I got the news I would be going to New York Fashion Week! (all info in the video below on what I was doing there!

We also got a new addition to the family when we adopted our splay-legged boy Georg. Bonding him and Karl took a while as Georg wasn’t neutered but it all got a little bit easier once he had the operation and now they are inseparable.

I was juggling doing stupid ass stuff on YouTube for my own entertainment (and hopefully some others too) in between projects, so when February came around my schedule was pretty hectic.

I shot a video on the 1th of Feb of Kata at Sprey hair salon doing whatever with my hair to have it looking GREAT at Fashion Week (and got LOADS of compliments on it while at NYFW. On the 4th we shot the Eurovision video and on the 6th I had the flight out to NY.

My 3 fav NY looks from the trip (yes that pink jacket was everything) :

When I got back it was to time to hit the ground running as I got straight to editing the music video Guðný and I had made for Daði & Gagnamagnið for their entry into this years Eurovision song contest. The video was released 3 days after I got back so it was a lot, Guðný had made a rough cut for me to jump into but it was still a super quick turnaround, especially for what the year would later become.

The song and video were major successes and went slightly viral. Later, memes popped up of the song, this was so uncanny and unexpected but we were all pleasantly surprised with how it went.

After the year starting out so strong I had a good feeling about what would be to come. But then of course the virus hit.

I shot and directed two rather simple music videos while I still had a studio space in March (although they would be released later in the year) and one was shot outside.

Flying for Stefanía Svavars, Running for Karítas Harpa and Starir for Hrefnan.

Since I was without work at the beginning of the pandemic I decided I should start shooting for Streets of Reykjavík again but that didn’t end up being too long-lived since I had a hard time getting myself out to do it.
That was very much how I felt for the longest time, I had no drive to do anything and couldn’t really meet anyone. Jón Atli was on the only film production in the whole country at the time that was still working so it was pretty lonely and strange.

Having a birthday during a pandemic wasn’t ideal but I made the best of it. I streamed earlier in the day and turned myself into Little My from the Moomins and had a discord party with some of my favorite people during the evening. We played all kinds of games through there, which was the best thing I could have hoped for at that time, haha!

In May I was going insane and decided I would stream almost every weekday, and I did. Now I have a huge backlog of content I should go through and edit the highlights of each stream so it’s in a more bite-sized pieces but maybe next year ;)

In January I was contacted by a dressmaking company based in China. They offered me a free dress if I would take photos of myself in it.
My plan had been to be a PRINCESS on my birthday as I had never ever had a dress made for me. Well, it arrived about a month and a half after my birthday because of the pandemic, so I just made a video and did a little photoshoot after all that instead, but it was so nice to go out and do something, even if it was just this very dramatic video/photoshoot haha

Jón Atli and I wouldn’t travel a whole lot together during this summer as most other Icelanders. He was working a lot and I was getting smaller projects here and there. I’ve had an idea brewing for over a year now to live-stream from different places around Iceland, and with Iceland almost empty this year it would have been perfect but somehow it’s December again and nothing came of it except for this one stream with my friend Nína:

Consistently throughout the year I was working with such nice people on the upcoming series Líf Dafnar that will premiere early 2021. It’s pretty amazing to realize when you are working on something that will affect people and truly matter to so many. I am very excited to see the outcome and reaction to the new series.

July was another crazy month with photoshoots, a music video shoot and a short film.
Below are some photos I shot for the amazing designer Lovísa Tómasdóttir, I would later get some clothes borrowed from her for myself to do a shoot.

I wrote, shot and edited probably one of the weirdest-yet-fun videos I have ever had the pleasure of working on for Zöe, the song is SHOOK.

It was a loooooong day but so much fun with a lot of weird jello.

Then there was the short film I shot that was overflowing with some wonderful cows. I am looking forward to showing you the short once it’s available online!

Atli and I had a couple of days to enjoy together, so we traveled north with the buns and they got to experience some sand for the first time.

We also celebrated 8 years together and 3 years of being married!

When fall came around Atli started on another long production where he was away for 1 and a half month, meanwhile I lost my marbles and saved a wig from the street.

I also beat ALL my records in Tetris and 2048

Not only that but my 12 year old passion for vintage fashion and clothes/style blossomed up with my passion for sewing so 2021 will be interesting if nothing else.

A photoshoot from this year I treasure is for the same project I mentioned before, Líf Dafnar, where I shot the host in a concept aimed at #raunveruleikinn (translates to #reallife) where the hashtag pushes people to think about what they are showing on social media and that sometimes it is ok that everything is a mess and not perfect, because that is life.

I was not going to write a recap this year but now that I am done, I am pretty happy I did.
There is some catharsis in writing it down and just, move on.

We took a breather and enjoyed the holidays together in peace and quiet.

This is somewhat the chosen mood for celebrating tonight (with slightly more snow) :

But this is my general mood towards 2020 as a whole:

Lots and lots of love, we will hug later!
